Steam name: Doobs
Age: 18

Character Name: Maria Castillo
Character Age: 29
Character Corps: Innie, Intelligence
Character Rank: N/A
Planet of Origin: Madrigal

Personality Description: Maria is a jovial, light hearted person, often hiding her feelings behind sarcasm and jokes. True to the Insurgent theme she holds a great distaste for the UNSC, she has held a position in a small colonial government, and saw first hand how the UEG steamrolls any outer colonies local government. She has made many friends in the URF and in working in government, and thrives off her connections. Through this, her most notable trait is paranoia, she tries to hide every step she goes through in her insurgent career; though her luck so far may catch up with her someday. She’s lived a peaceful life up until her conscription to the URF, and though she’s done terrible violent things in the past, her bureaucratic background makes her slow to violence and would rather come to solutions through negotiations and compromises.

Physical Description: Maria is a female of Spanish descent, standing at 5’10”. She has an average build, though obvious she does not have the body of a soldier, she looks to be in her late twenties. Her long jet black hair hangs from the back of her head, dull green eyes hidden behind a fat pair of glasses. She speaks in a fairly light Spanish accent, her voice a lower pitch. Her off duty attire usually consists a tight white t-shirt with baggy long black cargo pants, a tight pack slung over her back. Whilst deployed she’d wear a seemingly vastly unnecessary amount of armor, her body coated with layering of kevlar and ceramic plating, the armor being black with red accents.

Character Bio:

Maria has been on the run her entire life.

Though now it was the UEG, it wasn’t always this way. She was born on Madrigal in 2511, growing up the child of a working class blue collar family, her father and brother were miners in a quarry a little off the beaten path and her mother stayed home and took care of the young ones. She attended public school, coordinated by the UEG in most outer colonies to at least somewhat educate their citizens before they die in the mines or on the battlefield fighting the pesky rebels which had infested the outer colony by this point. As such a young girl she really couldn't fathom the idea of the space-faring super government nor had she any need to. These were the pre-war times, simpler yet more complex, violent yet uninspiring. She graduated middle school when the times took a turn for the worse. She was at her house getting ready for school when the orbital defense platforms failed, the main body of government had declared a state of emergency, two hours later it was a full evacuation.

Her mother, father and two young brothers ran down the crowded city streets. Horns blared and destruction raged on in the background noise.

“Madre, where are the big men who protect us?”

“They’ll be here soon, my dear, they’ll be here soon.”

Hours later there was no main defensive force set up, CDF and small pockets of UNSC battalions already stationed on the planet struggled to hold their ground. Green-plated Pelicans roared through the skies as the family ran to the airport, transport ships rushed out of the colony’s airport trying to escape the burning planet. The Castillo family finally made it into the airport, luckily due to the young children they had in their party they were able to skip ahead a ways and make it on a carrier.

Luckily the invasion was still in its first stages, the planet was not yet swarming with large-scale battle-cruisers; mostly transport ships dropping off infantry to secure locations and bombing from orbit. They ship was stocked full of people, overcapacity, people were in the cargo bay as well as the seating. It was unknown to her whether other ships that took off were deployed as they were stuffed in the windowless back of the ship, though they got out fine and safely exited to orbit. Ferrying themselves out of the system using a slipspace drive, safely escaping.

She had later found out her home colony had been the sixth planet to be glassed.

Like many young ones to have their planet glassed, unaware that the UNSC had given any fight to try and save it she took great vengeance on her UEG oversight. Whilst some Insurrectionists turned to the UNSC side to unite against a common enemy she joined the Insurrectionists; for she was young, mislead and more importantly, angry. She wouldn’t see the Covenant as a universal threat until later once she had grown and matured, for now the UNSC was her enemy.

Maria was what some would call a young political mastermind.

After the destruction of her homeworld, like many other Madrigal citizens she fled to The Rubble, rising to power inside the Security Council at the young age of 21 and like many of the members of the council she sympathized against the UNSC. Maria had the Insurrectionists in her back pocket, and throughout her time on the council she also grew in popularity among the Insurrectionists of the Rubble. She was a quick wit, and began doing intelligence and security work for the Insurrectionists and the Council, separately. She wasn’t a grunt or merc like some Innies in the rubble, and prefered to take the peaceful, albeit manipulative, route over direct action. This helped the Innies cause greatly, as she helped establish their trade routes and correlated with other Insurrectionist leaders.

Her life was going well and she had made friends in every background. However like her escape from Madrigal, her escape from the Rubble was inevitable. Years after her election she was on the run again, being a higher-up in the Security Council and the Insurrection she was to be evacuated first using the Exodus Project which would evacuate them safely if the UNSC or Covenant showed up.

The Battle of the Rubble was soon underway.

Maria struggled to find her family in the chaos, UNSC and Covenant forces clashed. In her paranoid and hate-filled mind she had come up that the UNSC had led the Covenant here in a violent battle, both fighting for the Rubble. However in execution the UNSC and Spartan Grey team was the ones fighting to help the civilians. The Insurrectionists kept this from her so that she would further listen to their beckoning commands, she was the one being played now. As the battle raged on the AI f the Rubble directed all civilians to the Exodus Project to escape, the Insurrectionists hid inside also in a more hidden location.

After the battle they were all safely evacuated to Falaknuma, another human colony. As the refugees were being accounted for she was directed to a freighter in the yard they had been evacuated to. After going to it and entering she met with a URF Lieutenant who asked her to join their cause, when she questioned why he said the UNSC killed their family on the asteroid. She, being skeptical as usual asked for proof hesitantly as grief took her over. She watched a security feed of two Spartan-IIs in grey armor gun down her family as they tried to escape to the Exodus Project. She couldn’t believe what she had seen.

However Maria through her intelligence and political occupation remained to be extremely tech-savvy, which in the end is part of the reason she had been conscripted. She joined with the URF and began her training, which mostly included mental exercises for her before combat-oriented ones.

Every night she’d watch the feed from the Rubble. She noticed something about it, there were no time-stamps, and the camera was in extremely low-resolution. The corridor was dimly lit and through the light there were no shadows, as if someone had pieced a lazily and fastly made animation. Ironically as the people on the URF base taught her more and more to go along with her given occupation as a Technician she only realized more and more the discrepancies in the tape. However her hatred for the UNSC was too strong to be blinded by lies told to her by the URF to keep her in their cause, and deeper than that she knew if she went to the Commander and told him she knew the tape was false; she’d be executed immediately. Therefore she lived the lie, though the lie only went so deep as her family’s deaths. And while she began a distaste for the URF for doing this to her, her hatred for the UNSC was far more pronounced; and joining the URF was the only way she could think of getting back.

She made a reputation for herself among the camp, and was soon transferred to a cell of the URF called the Redcoats. She was transferred to the unit being an Intelligence asset, often hijacking UEG feeds and using Waypoint to get into insecure UNSC networks. Her long history on the Rubble and working with the Kig-Yar made her ideal for an intelligence gathering oriented occupation.

Overall character development is pretty good. I'll defer to Eyec's judgement for timelines as that's not really my strong suit.

I love how the character spent time on the Ruble. Others may not like it but that would make them valuable to the team.
