Nicholas is a rather lean, young, Caucasian, man standing easily over six foot, approximately six foot two rounded. His hair is a very dark brown and cut short on one side, leaving a buzzed line which transforms into a slicked back comb over. Blending nicely with his hair, Nicholas' eyes are also a brown, though, a bit lighter. With an overall slim face, his jaws have a defined line to them as they meet to the chin. A soft shadow of stubble lines his jaw and wraps around his to meet below his nose. Bolstering an Outer Colonial accent with strong hints of an Earthly Italian accent, Nicholas' voice is a smooth medium octave as each of his words roll off the tongue eloquently. He is generally seen wearing the standard Marine Corps Combat BDU altered slightly for reconnaissance operations, although, his camouflage combat suit may vary in pattern depending on the mission directive. Imprinted on the middle armor pad is his rank and "CARLEO". Each plating has at least one pouch of ammunition, a general purpose pouch, medical pouch, or some other container for combat equipment. His handgun is securely strapped to the right thigh plate, his primary weapon hanging from his chest by a dual-point sling system.

Family

The Carleos had been living on Meridian since it's conception in 2432, arriving on colonial support ships in search of a new life on the outer frontier. Despite many of the colonists being of French decent, the Carleos were purely Italians whom had been traveling throughout the nations of the European Union at the time. It was an extensive family tree, each branch containing dozens more. The group colonized the planet and continued their prior work from Earth; agriculture. The lush forestry and fertile soil made it quite easy for them to get a foothold in the town of Avignon. About a year after their arrival, the family began to expand from agriculture production to the manufacturing of equipment. Thus Carleo A&T was created. Slowly their products became the prime tools for other farmers on Meridian. With the large surplus of food coming from the farm, the colony of Meridian was able to expand, much like all other civilizations. The Carleo's contributions were recognized by the Steward political party as a sort of way to garner more support during the Free Patriot Movement.

During the Meridian insurrection, the family was able to stay in a rather passive role due to their line of work. However, one of the sons of a man named Anthony Carleo; the CFO of the company, was swamped by the propaganda from the Sundered Legion. He conscripted with the insurgents and was later killed during the Siege of Athea. This put the family under scrutiny, the CCA probing an investigation to each family member for possible involvement in the insurrection. It came up empty, though, to save the media from portraying the investigation as false; the agency in charge of it falsified information which pointed to them providing insurgent camps with large streams of supplies and rations. As punishment, the father of Anthony, his wife, and two unnamed kin were conscripted to the UNSCDF's Navy as labor technicians. The company's assets were transferred down the line, eventually landing directly onto that of Nicholas' family. Production stunted once it was given to his grandfather, the tools of agriculture no longer surplussing as the market was overtaken by competitors. However the family remain quite wealthy from the previous years and were set. They returned to the humble life of farming. In five locations across a peninsula on the Meridian super continent were Carleo farms that continued to provide for the surrounding territories.
Image Early Life

Nicholas grew up in a comfortable household. Like the previous generations, he had a decent amount of siblings; four to be exact. Each were given their own room, attention, allowances, and so on. Nick stood out though. He never really wanted much, whereas, his brothers and sisters were constantly asking for more. Being humble with what he had pleased him, even on his birthday. As a young boy in elementary school, he was frequently seen giving away his food or lunch money to those more in need. The teachers loved him. He was smart, cute, and a real charmer. Each year, the teachers had the same things to say; "Nick is such a sweet young boy, I can tell he's going places.", or, some variation of that. He maintained a decent level of education and was always happy to learn more about it. Nick fed off knowledge, the drive to learn more bringing him to lengths that no other kid his age would have cared to. Surprisingly, despite his somewhat book worm personality, Nick was a stellar athlete, as well as being quite popular.

In middle school, he continued to keep his reputation up of being kind. He was growing up in a safe environment, Meridian was safe from the war going on around. The UNSC had propaganda embedded into ever school system, ONI Section Two ensured that all of the outer colonies remained calm whilst others were obliterated. The ideas went through Nick's mind as he continued to grow, seemingly becoming enthralled with the heroic picture of UNSC soldiers being painted in the minds of him and his peers.

When it came time to go to high school, Nick began to slack behind a bit. As a typical teenager, other things interested his mind rather than the boring school day. Girls, sports, his future. They all became priorities, and his grades suffered. Like most kids falling behind in school, Nick was reprimanded by his parents. The scolding only made it worse, he grew a hatred for school and despised going. Nick did the bare minimum to pass the classes, putting in very little effort. The year was now 2543, his senior year of high school. The Covenant's war continued to ravage UEG colony after colony, sending the military into a panic. The propaganda only heightened in his schools, and Nick became convinced that his future lay ahead with the UNSC. Directly after graduation, he enlisted in the Marines.

Nick prepared like everyone else for the ASVAB, studying for days until the final day arrived when he entered the MEPs station. The entire day was filled with test after test, physical and written. It stressed him, however, he passed with a rather high score. This opened up multiple routes for him. After going through many MOS routes, speaking to other recruits and his recruiter, Nick decided that he would become a standard reconnaissance Marine. Once the test was over and he received his results, Nick was then shipped off the UCMB Sierra Largo where he began training as a Marine recruit.

It was unlike anything he could have ever prepared for. The physical training was Hell. Drill instructors were in his face constantly, and if pissed him off. It was like he was back at home, being reprimanded for the smallest thing by his parents. He wanted to break free, to take it all back and go home. That's exactly what they wanted him to do, to break down. Once he did, they hammered him, like everyone else. Nick became accustomed to the suck and embraced it, going through the drills and tactics training day in and day out. No matter what was thrown at him now, nothing could take him off the goals.

Once the basics of boot camp were over, he was then sent off for further reconnaissance training with another group of Marines. He thoroughly enjoyed the tactics being employed and was happy with what he had chosen to do with his life. The weeks of training paid off in boot camp, and now they were being turned into something worth it. Nick trained in the basics, just as every other Marine did, and was humbled by the training. Never did he think that he would be doing this, coming from such an esteemed family with a good amount of wealth. He was ready to defend his race.

Once the final courses were set, Nick was then transferred to an MEU in which he was assigned a role in a platoon.

With the platoon he was assigned to, Nick made only a couple of friends. Right off the bat the group saw combat, being sent from outer colony planet to outer colony planet in search of Covenant positions to destroy. They were very successful, his NCOs some of the best he'd ever heard of. The platoon, after a few months of fighting, were eventually attached to a platoon of ODST reconnaissance men. They acted a supporting role, assisting them in their raids, patrols, and general combat operations. One of the ODSTs, a woman by the name of Lily Baltrus, became quite close friends with Nick and the two became sort of battle buddies. Sticking together, Nick was taught some tactics that ODSTs learned through Lily and applied them to his own. After about a year of fighting with the ODSTs, Nick had achieved the rank of Lance Corporal through his ability and discipline. In early 2545, he, along with a smaller group of Marines from his platoon, were tasked to assist the ODSTs in taking down a rather high-ranking Covenant elite who was raising Hell on the planet they were stationed on. Under the command of a sergeant, the recon Marines successfully reconed the area, relayed hostile positions, and engaged them. A firefight went on the quite a long time, Covenant reinforcements keeping the area locked tight. The ODST squad was able to drop in, thin out the defenses which allowed the platoon to overthrown the remaining Covenant in the area. The officer was taken out. This had a large impact on the leadership of the Covenant in the area, the forces quickly scattering. The UNSC was then able to regroup their forces and drive them off the planet, until, years later, that same said planet would be glassed during a counter attack.

For his valiant efforts in taking out, Nick was awarded a commendation as well as everyone else in the squad.

It was sort of like he was in school again, most people liked him. Nick remained very friendly and lighthearted towards most situations and people. Around early April, his platoon was once again called up for service on the final refuge of the Covenant on said planet. A stronghold which was heavily defended. Nick's platoon was tasked with providing support for the Marines from one of the flanks, as well as designating the movements of the tank crews. The siege started off quick. Plasma and bullets being transferred from all sides as the UNSC assaulted huge remains of a city with all they had. They broke through the front lines and were ordered to push further into the city. Nick was assigned to a squad with about eight other Marines, three of which were NCOs. The entered through the flank they had softened up and were met with heavy resistance, losing two right off the bat. The squad was now down to six men. They were designated an objective, storm and take control of a large apartment building which housed Anti-Air. The squad pushed onto the building and again were met with strong resistance from Covenant stragglers. They fought hard, loosing two more men; both were the NCOs. As the highest ranking in his squad, Nick took charge. He lead the three other privates through the building, killing every Covenant that was in their path. One private was hit by plasma in the head, dropping to his death. The AA was close, just one more floor to the roof. They broke through and took out the grunts manning the Shade turrets. The two thought it was done, until suddenly, a hail of plasma lit up the back of the other Marine he was with. Turning around, an Elite minor was wielding a plasma rifle. Nick raised his weapon and unloaded, the shields quickly dispersing as the Elite was taken back. Suddenly it charge, tackling Nick to the ground. The two's armor clashed together, trading punches. However, the large Elite was much more of a match than Nick was. He was grabbed by the neck, slowly being choked. Nick's legs kicked the body of the alien but to no avail. He had a sudden idea. Nick laid lifeless suddenly in the Elite's grasp, his hand sliding down to the combat knife stuck in his belt. As soon as tension was released and he was dropped to the ground, Nick charge at the Elite who's back was turned. Jumping a bit, he was able to drive the knife into the neck. It began choking for air, blood pooling from the deep wound. A few moments passed and the Elite dropped. The mission was accomplished.

With the anti-air gone, UNSC air support was able to flatten any resistance in the city; ridding the invasive aliens from the planet. Nick radioed in the nearest squad and was EVACed with them, leaving the smoldering city behind. He was awarded a bronze star for his valiant efforts, straight from the battalion commander himself. Nick really was set up for greatness, his teachers were right after all.

A few weeks later he received an encrypted message baring an ONI symbol. It read;

06:00 HRS, DOCKING BAY 06, PELICAN 02. BRING IDENTIFICATION. YOU ARE BEING RELOCATED TO A NEW UNIT, CALLSIGN: ALPHA-INDIA-ROMERO. ORDERS OF OFFICE OF NAVAL INTELLIGENCE, SECTION ONE.

Thus began a new chapter in Nick's story, one where he may make an even bigger difference.
