Personality Description: Mirko comes off as serious most of the time, though it is possible to see him unwind, mostly through alcohol. Once you unwravel a cold, rather indifferent outer shell he can be caring and attentive, leading many to infer his medical experiences have led him to avoid making too many personal relationships with "future patients". Nonetheless, it is possible to get to know him and see him unwind. He has a remarkably cool head in risky situations, though that comes with a cold, analyitical attitude necessary for his role, which may be the cause of a undiagosed personality disorder such as Asperger's. He's known as reliable and effective in his role, but not the first person you'd go to with say, relationship problems. Seen as cold and rather analytical, he is effective in combat, this seems to come at the expense of much of his personality; rather than demanding and attentive he comes off as observant, slightly shy, and indifferent. He'd laugh along with your joke, if only due to the peer pressure, but he wouldn't be the one making jokes.
Physical Description: A average built male at about six foot two, Mirko is far from the strongest person, and has problems carrying some of the heavier individuals by himself, but he is nonetheless physically capable weighing about two hundred pounds. He has buzz-cut black hair, brown eyes, a clean shaven face and he usually wears some form of eyeglasses (because, in his own words, he hates contacts). Otherwise he is physically unremarkable.
Character Bio: Mirko is the product of Lt. Robert Novak and Mary Jane Novak, the former being a UNSC Marines platoon leader based on Reach. Mirko was born on March 1st, 2520, and raised uneventfully on Reach, his father making several six month deployments against Insurgents during his early upbringing. His younger sister, Maria Novak, was born on May 5th of 2522.
Unbeknownst to the two toddlers, there parents argued for months pertaining to Robert's future in the Marines, casualties against the ever growing Insurgency were growing, and Mary presented him with a ultimatum; seek a desk position or retire after his six year contract expired. Robert elected to be discharged honorably from the Marines when his contract expired, May 1th, 2525.
Things calmed down after that, at least temporarily; Robert completed his last year in the Marines; Mirko was now five, Maria was three, except one day a message came; Robert's contract had been extended indefinitely. It was February 25th, 2525. He was to be deployed immediately.
Mary prodded his superiors for information, but all remained close lipped; They didin't know themselves, and a unprecedented amount of forces were being deployed to "Some crisis out in the outer worlds." - No one knew why, or where to, but they where going.
It would be five years before Mirko saw his father again; he was now ten, his sister was now eight, when Robert came home, allotted a whole two months of leave. They made the best of it, fishing, hunting, generally enjoying themselves, but the two months went by fast. Before they knew it he was off to - what was now revealed to be a war with a alien civilization -, and he left on June 6, 2530.
This time it was different; rather than the holograms home every week, they almost rarely heard from Robert. Only getting a message once a month, before they stopped coming outright. A letter arrived on March 2531, declaring that Robert was missing in action. The family held out hope for 8 months, before finally in November notification arrived in the form of a Navy chaplain - Robert was killed in action in the first battle of Arcadia in February.
The next few years were hard, Mary, unable to deal with the daily memory of her husband, moved the family from Reach to New Carthage in 2533, to be closer to her parents and her side of the family. She came to a crushing and gripping thought; the likelyhood that her son, and given the news that the UNSC, pressed for bodies, was extending conscription of females, likely her daughter as well were going to be drafted. Mirko, now a teenager, was driven to take after his father, much to his mothers dismay. His mother made him promise, if he was drafted, he would enter the Navy to at least slightly prolong his chances. He agreed, and he was enlisted at age 17 on July 22nd, 2537. Much to his mothers immediate concern, he was placed into the Corpsman MOS - a frontline combat role. But there was no takebacks now, and he was committed. He went to basic training on August 8th, 2537, and graduated with class 3455 on January 5, 2538.
Mirko reported for A-School on February 2nd, 2538, and immediately shined - in part due to a ability to keep a clean head. Though he was far from top of his class academically, he excelled in field training and field exams, and graduated on July 8th 2538, immediately being deployed to the UNSC Orlando and reporting on August 1, 2538.
Mirko found himself immediately being deployed aboard a Halcyon class cruiser, seeing combat repeatedly and developing his detached attitude about his work, and became methodical in his duties; moving from person to person and giving a near instantaneous diagnosis on life or death as if it was clockwork. Such a outlook, be it as destructive to his mental health long term as it is, is however necessary in his line of work. His competency and - above all else - expendability lead to his deployment on the Safety-in-Silence.
