Final entry for the ship "UNSC Safety in Silence" by Master Chief Petty Officer Miia Taikon, ONI liaison. Since making landfall on Miessa things have gone to hell, we have lost far to many marines to make my mission worthwhile. With the events of the last few days and the subsequent death of the unit commander Lieutenant D. Collins and the release of [REDACTED] from Sabre Base the situation deteriorated rapidly. Last night a small team lead by Sergeant Freide A. Volk returned the SiS without proper authorisation, the events that followed remain unknown, all we know is that the Safety in Silence was destroyed. Only member of the crew is known to have survived, Chief Petty Officer Malcom Deckard recovered Sergeant Stephanie Hill and the Insurrectionist Arya Brahn, from an escape pod that was apparently launched before the destruction of the Safety in Silence. They have since been transported to the Porter's Sorrow for questioning before being released back to the rest of the unit.
What I am about to write will surely land me in hot water, I'm breaking all protocol by doing this, but due to the circumstances and the death of the unit commander, I am, in order to keep the unit together, taking command until we arrive at Reach, at which point I will relinquish command and submit to whatever consequences this decision may lead to.
Once a proper headcount has been completed and we have made a final sweep for any survivors I will join the makeshift crew and do what I can to assist our pilots in getting the Porter's Sorrow off the ground and back to Reach.
I wish to add it to the log that those lost on this barren world died with honour in the service of the United colonies and Earth, they all deserve a hero's funeral.
