UNSC History
The Need & the Formation In March 2160 Fascist rebels based on the Jovian Moons, named the Frieden movement, declared open revolution against 'The Oppressive Earth Government' known as the United Nations by attacking their Colonial Advisors on Io. In response the UN sent an International peacekeeping Navy to engage the rebellion in open warfare, a conflict which lasted three months and included various orbital, ground & zero gravity engagements. Using the conflict as a proxy, multiple parties including corporations, military organisations & earth governments started a series of attacks and operations against one another in order to get ahead and seize property. These conflicts eventually boiled up in 2162 in the Rain Forest Wars, where Freiden & Communist worker rebels known as the Koslovics sent Juntas into the South American farming lands & mineral facilities while UN defensive forces attempted to pacify the region. While there were massive casualties on all sides, the real defeat was held by civilians internationally as starvation ran rampent throughout the globe when UN support was crippled. At this point, massive amounts of UN officials turned their attention to military matters as tensions in the solar system skyrocketed.
Mars was the next target, and UN set their sights on the Argyre Planitia in the southern highlands. The area had been under Koslovic control since 2160 and in 2163 was a beacon for the rebel forces. Using the long forgotten military tactic of the 'blitzkrieg' the UN forces rushed the Planitia and over took the forces quickly and efficiently. This conflict marked the start of a new age of warfare, as it was the first usage of UN marines deployed from UN navy vessels. In the skirmishes that followed this became the norm, dedicated marines assigned to ships for ground assault and boarding actions. These offensives were incontestable successes to UN peacekeeping military forces and cemented the use of ship based Marines in operations and larger conflicts. The most important outcome was of a political military nature, as UN did not have a dedicated space faring military force, instead drawing upon the agreements of the governments to provide peacekeepers in times of conflict. The result of these actions was the UNSC, or the United Nations Space Command, an emergency defense force that would soon come to represent the sum of humanities military might.
By 2164, the impact of the Argyre campaign was massive. The newly formed UNSC was seen as a shining example of humanities finest through propaganda televised throughout the system. Volunteers from all military services rushed to sign up, driven by a sense of courage, urgency & hope that they could make the Solar System a safer place. These recruits were turned into extraordinary marines, naval crewmen & air servicemen for a final offensive. The objective of this attack was to eliminate Freiden, Koslovic & other minor faction's strongholds across Earth , throughout the inner planets of the system at large & even beyond Jupiter. In a series of brutal crackdowns and flash tactics that lasted from 2164 to 2170 the communist and fascist hardliners were quickly dispatched, putting the revolutions down around the system. This quickly garnered massive civilian support for the UNSC to act as a force to repel revolts and uprisings. These conflicts ended where it began, the Jovian moons. Leaders of the revolutions came together to sign the Callisto Treaty, putting an end to the 10 years of fighting in favour of the UNSC and Democratic forces.
In the following months after the first multinational & multicolonial agreement, governments of Earth and the colonies decided to band together to survive the fall of capitalism in the new space faring age. As so, the United Earth Government was formed.
