Personality Description
Justin’s personality has changed over the past years. It all began when he entered the UNSC Academy on Luna. He was a rather calm person, but now when he gets annoyed by things, he gets aggressive quickly. It depends in what mood he is in. He’s kind of introvert, but he is starting to get a bit more social then he used to be. In general, he’s a defensive person and doesn’t share really his private life to others.
Physical Description
Justin has got dark short blond hair and got dark green eyes, he is kind of tall, about 1.76m, has a trimmed beard and has a deep Scottish accent. He usually wears casual clothing when off-duty.
As a Navy Petty Officer, he isn’t really strong build anymore as he used to be. He became more mesomorph over the years. When he entered the academy, he was stronger build because the physical trainings he got back then. He is still capable of doing martial arts, but not as quick and strong enough as others.
Character Bio
Justin Matthew Mathen is born in the year 2501 in Crisium City on Luna, the moon that orbits Earth. After several of weeks, his parents had to go on a mission to the Epsilon Eridani system to defend the UNSC bases against the Insurrection. Both parents died in an attack on their ship. This means Justin never knew his parents. He was then brought to his aunt and uncle on Earth and spent his time with them. At the age of 6, he was told that his parents died. When he heard that, he became very upset and went away from his aunt and uncle’s home. He moved towards a treehouse he made with his uncle. He remained there in solitude for almost two days.
Years went passed. His youth times went well, but not perfect. He was usually didn’t socialize with other people. But in these times, he became more interested into joining the UNSC. At the age of 18, he made a choice and wanted to get into the Navy corps of the UNSC. His goal is to become a Tactical Officer aboard a vessel. He went through the main course of the UNSC until he was able to decide what kind of role he wants to study. He eventually choose for the course ‘Tactical and Strategy training’.
In his academy years, he met a person named Luna Zorsen. She came up to him and started to talk with Justin. He sat usually alone at the dining table. He became more of an introvert person, until he met her. She usually sat next to him. They talked about things of what happened in the past and about their own future. Luna was studying to become a Navy officer as well, but specifically to become a scientific officer. Later, she started to show more affection towards Justin, eventually falling in love on him. He didn’t really noticed it much, until one day she kissed him. They became in love on each other.
Three years later in 2522, he finished the course and was immediately assigned to a Corvette. This means that he will never see her again. She finished her studies as well and was assigned to a different ship. He tried to stay in contact with her, but this didn’t last very long. Luna was caught in a battle while Justin was contacting her. He lost contact with her several of minutes later. He never heard from her again… This made him upset and very angry. He asked the captain of the corvette to get off-duty for a short period of time, but the request was denied. He was given however a smaller assignment.
Two years later, he was assigned to a Paris-Class vessel named: UNSC Lunar. His main tasks were to keep maintenance on the weapons systems of the ship and to make sure the ammunition is ready for usage. When in battle, his tasks were to control the turrets on the right port side of the ship and take over the main weapon system of the ship if asked.
After a few years of serving between tactical stations on the UNSC Lunar, Justin tasted his first bit of combat. An unidentified ship came from slipspace and opened fire upon the frigate. Justin was already assigned to the ammunition storage for a munitions count, but was immediately called back to the bridge.
He was asked to control the turrets on the right side of the ship and fire upon the enemy vessel. He prepared the weapon systems accordingly, waiting until the frigate was in the way for a full broadside before firing. This, in turn damaged the frigate, fire and destruction erupted aboard as Justin watched in awe. The Insurrectionist vessel managed to fire again upon the frigate, however, thanks to the efforts of the broadside, he managed to destroy almost all side facing weapons on the frigate, allowing the UNSC Lunar to absorb most damage into the armour. Justin saw a chance to destroy the ship when the Lunar circled around the back of the frigate, sending a volley of fire towards the engine and reactor bays. Crippled and sustaining heavy fire, the insurrectionist ship escaped most of its crew using life pods which were soon intercepted by UNSC Longswords. After a few minutes of burning, the reactor of the frigate exploded, splitting the ship in half, luckily by that time, the Lunar had escaped the blast area. Thanks to Justin's quick reactions and tactical thinking, they managed to destroy the ship without sustaining any casualties themselves and only suffering minor hull damage.
In 2530, he was assigned to a different ship named UNSC Reine. It was a Halcyon-Class light cruiser which was moderately modified with more defensive capabilities. The reasons were not clearly explained to Justin on why he was sent to this ship. He was quickly assigned as a tactical officer for ship to ship combat, a role relied on when facing hostile ships in combat. The ship’s assignment was to patrol the borders of the Solar System and never caught a glimpse of combat while Justin was aboard.
